The first camera I picked up wasn’t even a working one. I would beg my mother to buy me broken cameras we found at yard sales. I was fascinated with cameras since a young age. Of course, it wasn’t until I was older that I was finally allowed to have my own.
In elementary school, I was constantly in trouble for drawing, rather than doing school work. Some things never change. While i didn’t go to school for art or photography, I have vigorously pursued it on an almost full time basis while still maintaining a full-time job in the IT sector.
While others are watching television, playing with their children, or just taking it easy, I usually have my nose in a book, on a website, creating in photoshop, or out taking pictures.
I put down the crayons and construction paper years ago. My studio is packed full of mechanical pencils, drawing surfaces, graph paper, computers, scanners, light boxes, and other tools of the trade.
I have switched to fully digital photography as of October 2004. My lighting setup is fully mobile and flexible. I can provide studio quality lighting for individuals or groups, anywhere regardless of access to electrical outlets or not.
Ed Roper Photography was started professionally as a photo provider in 2008, as a part-time business. I decided to expand to offering graphic design services in 2009 as I was running into many clients who needed both. Being that I have experience in both disciplines, it was a perfect fit. Since then, I have been working under the banner of Ed Roper Designs.
My background in the IT industry gave me a wide variety of experience in all things web and computer based, and allowed me to pursue my creative passions without the burden of being a "starving artist".
